Sylvester Kosmatka funeral Tuesday
Chesterton resident Sylvester "Sally" Kosmatka, 67, died Saturday, July 4, 1987, at his residence.
Born Nov. 30, 1919, in Burdick, he was the son of John and Joanna (Stahoviak) Kosmatka. In Chesterton on July 1, 1946, he married the former Ruth Stephens, who survives.
Other survivors include sons John or Oxford, Mich., Thomas (wife Marilyn) of Chesterton; daughters Joanne Unbehaun (husband Charles) of Plain, Texas, Ruth Norlington (husband Larry) of Chesterton; sister Agnes Byers of Valparaiso, brothers Walter (wife Rose) of Michigan City, Lewis and Ben of Chesterton, and Clem (wife Wilma) of Hobart; nine grandchildren.
He was retired from Inland Steel in East Chicago, where he was a car bracer. An Army veteran of World War II, he served in the area of China, Burma, and India.
A funeral service is set for 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Patrick’s Church, 312 W. Indiana Ave., Chesterton, with the Rev. Lawrence Heeg presiding. Burial will be at Chesterton Cemetery.
Friends may call at the White Funeral Home, 525 S. Second St., Chesterton, from 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the rosary to be said at the funeral home at 7 p.m.
