Oliver J. Sievert dies at 94
Oliver J. Sievert, of Chestereton, died Sunday, Aug. 7, 2005 at The Arbors of Michigan City. He was 94. He was born Aug. 3, 1911, in Porter, the son of John and Anna (Stephens) Sievert, both of whom preceded him in death.
On June 28, 1947 in Michigan City, he married Rose Crawford, who preceded him in death on March 6, 2004.
He is also survived by eight nieces, Nancy (William) Pacholke of Porter, Beverly Krewett of Chesterton, Dorothy (Robert) Peterson of Mishawaka, Barbara (Theo) Merritt of Adrian, Mich., Loretta (Donald) Werner of Michigan City; Dolores (Robert) White of Valparaiso, Janet (Russ) Salamin of Hudson, Mich. and Lila (Carl) Hallberg of Chesterton and four nephews, John (Eileen) Mills of Mo., Lawrence (Eileen) Beck of Chesterton, Donald (Eva Lou) Swoverland of Valparaiso and Dwight (Linda) Sievert of Valparaiso.
He was also preceded in death by three brothers, Theodore Turner and William and Arthur Sievert and four sisters, Hazel Mills, Esther Beck, Irene Swoverland and Frances Pliske.
Oliver had been employed as a tool and die maker in the experimental lab at Joy Mfg. of Michigan City. He enjoyed traveling the Midwest with his wife to various ballroom dances. He also enjoyed fishing and camping and dining out.
A funeral service, Rev. John D. Hall officiating, will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 11 at Carlisle Funeral Home, 613 Washington St., Michigan City. Interment will be at Furnessville Cemetery, Furnessville, Ind.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at Carlisle Funeral Home.
