Wednesday rites for Mabel Stephens

Mabel Stephens, 1514 Westchester ave., Chesterton, died Sunday afternoon at Vale View convalescent Center in Valparaiso. She was 95.

Mrs. Stephens was born in Chesterton. She wed Theodore Stephens on June 24, 1909. He preceded her in death on April 16, 1969. Surviving Mrs. Stephens are two sons and four daughters; of Chesterton, Kenneth Stephens, Bob Stephens and Ruth Kosmatka; Jennett Myers, South Bend; Lois Hellman, Free Soil, Michigan; and Marian Shultz, Rockton, Illinois.

She also leaves behind 18 grandchildren and 43 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Stephens held the longest membership in the First Methodist Church of Chesterton. She joined in 1901, and she was the second oldest member in age. She also held memberships in First United Methodist Women and the Linnea Circle. She was a member of the Duneland Historical Society.

Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 17 at First United Methodist with the Reverend Dean Stuckey officiating. Burial will be at Chesterton Cemetery. Friends may call at White Funeral Home, Chesterton, from 2 to 9 p.m. Tuesday.
