Kenneth George Stephens, 88 years, 2 months and 10 days, died at his residence in Palo Alto, California at 5:03 p.m. on Thursday, July 9, 1998. He had been living with his son in Palo Alto following the death of his wife in late 1993.

Kenneth was born on April 29, 1910 in Porter, Indiana the son of Ted and Mabel Elizabeth (Anderson) Stephens, both of whom preceded him in death as did his wife of 55 years, Phyllis, his sister Jeannette (husband Jack) Myers and a beloved granddaughter—Sherrie Strange.

He is survived by brother Robert Stephens of Porter; sisters Marian (Robert) Shultz of Rockport, Illinois; Ruth Kosmatka of Chesterton, and Lois (Earl) Hellman of Freesoil, Michigan; daughters Elizabeth (Barney) Tarchala of Porter; Anita (Eloy) Serna of Albuquerque, New Mexico, and son Ted Stephens (wife Jeanie) of Palo Alto, California. In addition, he is also survived by granddaughters Shaun (Richard) Beecher of Bloomfield, Indiana, Peggy (Chuck) Thomas of Valparaiso, Colleen Strange of Palo Alto, California and Brenda Stephens of Palo Alto; grandsons Eugene (wife Emily) Strange of Arlington, Texas, Jay Strange of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Timothy Kozlowski of Houston, Texas, Keith (wife Cathy) Kozlowski of El Paso, Texas, Brian (wife Dianne) Stephens of Daly City, California and Matthew Stephens of Palo Alto; along with 10 great–grandchildren.

He graduated from Chesterton High School in 1927, and after graduation attended The Chicago College of Commerce where he studied accounting. He was employed at International Harvester in West Pullman, Illinois as a boltmaker where he met Phyllis Anita Hepburn. On September 14, 1935, Kenneth and Phyllis were married in Chicago, Illinois.

Kenneth was a member of the United First Methodist Church in Chesterton, Indiana as well as The First Methodist Church in Los Altos, California.

A private service was held at Roller & Hapgood & Tinney Funeral Home in Palo Alto, California on Saturday, July 11, 1998 for family and friends in California.

Visitation in Indiana will be on Tuesday, July 14th at White–Love Funeral Home, 525 South 2nd Street in Chesterton, with a memorial service at The First Methodist Church, 2nd Street and Porter Avenue in Chesterton at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 15th, the Reverend Terry Rhine officiating. Internment will be in the Chesterton Cemetery.
