Joseph Stephens, former resident, dies at age 62

Joseph B. Stephens, 62, Harvey, Ill., a well-known educator who was on the faculty of Thornton township high school since 1924 in physics and mathematics, died April 23 at his home after a long siege with cancer.

He was born in Chesterton, Sept. 29, 1896 and is a cousin of Lan Bradley, RFD 2. He was graduated from Chesterton high school and then earned bachelor’s degrees from the University of Chicago. He had planned to return to Chesterton for his retirement years, but was stricken with illness in September, 1958.

Close survivors are his wife, Charolette; and a sister, Miss Erma Stephens, Atlantic, Ga.
