Service set for Harrison and Peggy Stephens

Harrison “Sha Sha” H. Stephens, 83 died Saturday Aug. 22, 1992 at Unity Medical Center in Fridley, Minn.

His wife, Margaret A. “Peggy” (Confer) Stephens, died at the Trevilla Nursing Home in New Brighton, Minn., on Aug. 18 this year.

A joint memorial service is set for 11 a.m. Thursday at St. John United Church, 225 W. Lincoln Ave., Chesterton. Burial will be at Chesterton Cemetery, with a lunch to follow at the church.

Harrison was a life–long Chesterton resident until January of 1990, when he and Peggy moved to Coon Rapids, Minn., to live with Peggy's great–niece Charlotte Gorsegner, who survives.

Harrison and his father–in–law, Frank Confer, built the house at 315 S. 11 th St., when Harrison and Peggy lived until they moved to Minnesota.

He was born Oct. 7, 1909, the second son of John and Cora Stephens. He married Margaret in 1933. Harrison, Margaret, and Harrison's father ran the Neighborhood Grocery on Porter Avenue here for many years. Harrison retired from U.S. Steel in Gary after 35 years in maintenance.

Harrison is survived by a brother Marion Stephens of Chesterton; nephew Russell Stephens (wife Barbara) of Chesterton; nieces LaRue Gilbert of Chesterton and Thelma Scott of Logansport; aunt Agnes Morrical of LaPorte; and Roy Whittenberger of Ladysmith, Wisc.
